Policy
A policy is a broad statement of management's view and position
regarding a particular topic. To be meaningful and effective, a
policy must be both enforced and reinforced by standards,
guidelines, and procedures.
Standard
A Standard is mandatory activities, actions, rules, or regulations
designated to provided the policies with the support, structure, and
specific direction they require to be meaningful and effective.
Guidelines
A Guideline is more general statements that are also designed to
achieve the policy's objectives by providing a framework within
which to implement procedures.
Procedure
A Procedure spells out the specifics of how the policy and the
supportive standards and guidelines will actually be implemented to
an operating environment.
